Refractory mud, refractory cement, and refractory castable are all amorphous refractory materials, and they are commonly used in the refractory industry. Refractory mud is used for the masonry of refractory bricks. Refractory mud is also called refractory glue or joint material. It is used as the joint material of refractory masonry. Refractory cement is the material for making refractory concrete. Refractory castable is made of refractory aggregate, powder, and binder. It is also called casting material because of the pouring construction.
1. Refractory mud Refractory mud can be divided into clay, high alumina, siliceous, and magnesia refractory mud according to the material. It is composed of refractory powder, binder, and admixture. The refractory mud made of refractory clinker powder and the appropriate amount of plastic clay as binder and plasticizer is called general refractory mud. Its room temperature strength is low, and it has higher strength when it forms a ceramic bond at high temperatures. The particle size of refractory mud varies according to the application requirements. Its limit particle size is generally less than 1mm, and some are less than 0.5mm or finer. The material of refractory mud should be considered together with the material of refractory products of masonry. In addition to being used as caulking material, refractory mud can also be used as a protective coating for lining by painting or spraying.
2. Refractory Cement Refractory cement is also called aluminate cement. Aluminate cement is a hydraulic cementitious material made by grinding bauxite and limestone as raw materials, calcined and made of clinker with calcium aluminate as the main component and about 50% alumina content. Aluminate cement is often yellow or brown, and also gray. It is used as lining for industrial kilns.
3. Refractory Castables Refractory castables are a kind of amorphous refractory material that is currently produced and widely used. It is mainly used to construct integral structures such as linings of various heating furnaces. Some high-quality varieties can also be used in smelting furnaces. For example, aluminate cement refractory castables can be widely used in various heating furnaces and other thermal equipment without slag, acid, and alkali corrosion. In parts that are corroded by molten iron, molten steel, and slag and have high working temperatures, such as steel spouts, steel ladles, blast furnace bodies, iron tapping grooves, etc., and in some parts of metallurgical furnaces and other containers that are in direct contact with slag and molten metal, the use of high-quality phosphate refractory castables for repair also has excellent results.
From the above, we can see that although the three products are all amorphous refractory materials, their uses are very different, and each product is divided into different models and types, so when purchasing, you can consult professional technicians and choose the right product to avoid delaying the construction period and causing unnecessary losses.
