Calcium carbide furnace is a high-temperature equipment used to produce calcium carbide (calcium oxide). Due to the very high temperature and chemical corrosion inside the calcium carbide furnace, special refractory materials are required.
The following are commonly used refractories for calcium carbide furnaces:
High-alumina refractories: High-alumina refractory materials are often used inside calcium carbide furnaces, such as high-alumina bricks and high-alumina castables. These materials have excellent high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance and can withstand the erosion of high temperature and alkaline atmosphere inside the calcium carbide furnace.
Silicate refractories: Silicate bricks and silicate castables are also one of commonly used refractories in calcium carbide furnaces. They have good high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance and can withstand the erosion of high temperature and alkaline atmosphere inside the calcium carbide furnace.
Silicon-carbon refractories: Some calcium carbide furnaces also use silicon-carbon refractories, such as silicon-carbon bricks. Silicon carbon material has high-temperature oxidation resistance and good corrosion resistance and can be used stably for a long time in the high-temperature environment of a calcium carbide furnace.
Refractory fiber: Refractory fiber is also commonly used in the insulation layer of calcium carbide furnaces to reduce heat loss. Common refractory fiber materials include ceramic fibers and alumina fibers, which have good thermal insulation properties and high-temperature resistance.
Which refractory materials to use specifically need to be comprehensively considered according to the design and process requirements of the calcium carbide furnace, operating conditions, and material availability? It is recommended to consult Xinhongji Refractory when selecting and using refractory materials to ensure that the selected materials meet the requirements and can effectively cope with the working environment of calcium carbide furnaces.
