The problem of refractory castables falling off has always been a headache for users. The falling off of refractory castables can easily lead to danger during use, and the service life of the refractory castables after falling off will be greatly reduced, and it will also lead to a decrease in the service life of high-temperature industrial kilns. So what are the general reasons for the falling off of refractory castables?
1. Mechanical shock: Under the impact of external machinery, such as collision, vibration, etc., it is easy to cause the surface of refractory castables to fall off, so we must avoid intense mechanical shock during use.
2. Rapid temperature changes: Under rapidly changing temperature conditions, the thermal expansion and contraction of refractory castables will cause stress in the material, thereby causing falling off. Therefore, during use, the phenomenon of rapid cooling and heating of high-temperature kilns should be avoided.
3. The moisture is not fully volatilized: During the maintenance of refractory castables, if the moisture in the refractory castables is not fully volatilized, it is easy to cause expansion and castable shedding during work in a high-temperature environment.
4. Quality problems of refractory castables: If there are problems with the quality of refractory castables, it is easy to cause the material’s refractoriness or insufficient strength during use in a high-temperature environment, which will lead to the shedding of refractory castables.
5. Improper construction and operation of refractory castables: During the construction of refractory castables, if impurities are mixed into the refractory castables, improper water use, and operational errors occur during the operation and construction process, the strength of the refractory castables will be insufficient, which will lead to its shedding during use.
6. Chemical erosion: During use, if the medium is corrosive to a certain extent, and the refractory castable does not have anti-corrosion conditions, it is easy to cause chemical erosion, resulting in loose surface and shedding. Therefore, during use, it must be carried out according to the actual operating medium to avoid changing the operating medium at will.
7. Structural deformation: If the foundation structure covered by the castable is deformed or sunk, it may cause the castable to crack and fall off.
8. Aging of refractory castables: After long-term high-temperature use, refractory castables will often experience creep, thermal shock, etc. Long-term use will cause material aging, resulting in shedding.
To reduce the possibility of refractory castable shedding, it is recommended to fully understand the construction specifications before construction, select appropriate materials and construction methods by the specifications, and strictly control the construction quality. At the same time, after the construction is completed, the refractory castables should be reasonably oxidized to extend the service life of the refractory castables. If shedding problems are found, take repair measures in time to avoid further damage.
